Awww ... We set up am email for my 10 year old and she emails us everyday... She loves it and it's so funny to see what she writes now... My mum is so special because I she was also my grandmother. She took on my bother and I when were were babies and she was 52 and seeing her youngest finish high school... Pretty freaking special hey!?!

Really hard to answer this without sounding cheesy! But I would love to win some of your lovely things for my mum so I will try :) My mum is basically my best friend and has been there for me through some really horrible times; she accepts and loves me exactly as I am and I know that she will never let me down. (And all my friends wanted her to be their mum when we were growing up because she's not at all strict!)

My mum and I have never been amazingly close. We fought terribly when I was a teenager and I would never confide in her, possibly even now, although it is one of my aims in life to improve my relationship with her. She never gives me the love that I feel I need, she is not tactile and doesn't offer hugs or kisses freely. (this comment is going to improve I am not just bad-mouthing my mum here..!)
However... over the years I have really seen her love for me, just not in the ways I would expect. When I came home from a round the world trip at 21, pregnant and alone, she stood by me (even when she was going through a breakdown herself, which I didn't know at the time), she has looked after my kids when they were sick simply so I could go to work, she has stepped in to help me practically in situations where I was floundering, she has never once said to me, 'you were a horrible teenager or 'you put me through hell', even though I really was and I did, and over the last 6 months when I have been unwell, she has stood by me and helped me in so many ways without ever telling me she was doing it. And, I think in those few months, for the first time in my life I actually realised her love for me. So, my mum is ace :)

my mum is fab. Even though it knackered her out she was prepeared to stay at mine and look after my hubby and kids while i was away for work. i didn't have to worry about them at all. shes always on call if i need her for grand child care or a good gossip. i love her v much.

What a lovely idea - comments so far have made me cry! My Mum and I were very close - she was a bit insane, not very strict, and slightly unpredictable, but taught me that I could do as well as any boy and instilled a sense of being able to rule the world in me (though thankfully for the world I don't!).

Mums are pretty great aren't they. There isn't really much to add as people have said most of it already but my mum is always there. My hubby is in Afghanistan, my eldest was sick and needed to go to hospital. Mum come over late at night hr drive to look after baby. Thats not the only thing its just one example of her love for all of us. She has 4 children who are very different but she sees the best in us all and tries to keep the peace when we all fall out even now we're all adults.

Sadly my mum died in 2000 - I still miss her,she was an incredible lady and I hope I'm as good a Mum as she was

I love my mum because...
...despite the fact that she is a pensioner and I have a better paid job than she ever did in her lifetime...she still hides a tenner for me somewhere in my house whenever she visits!

If I had been able to have children myself, I would have wanted to be a Mum just like my own. She has always encouraged, supported & loved no matter what. A couple of years ago Mum gave me a magnet "Always my daughter, but now my friend" - Mum was my Matron of Honour - I did not have bridesmaids. She is simply the best Mum anyone could ever wish for!

Well, my mum is the person who helps me justify buying fabric and yarn I don't really need, but just really like! but then that is just one of her many many ace mum type atributes!

My Mum inspires me in so many ways, we've always been a creative family but life gets in the way sometimes and we live quite far apart so when we get together we make sure we make something together. She's taught me so much practically, making curtains, quilts and clothes but she's also taught me who i am. Now i am a mum myself i learn still more and only wish my son thinks of me half as highly as i think of her.
They say all women become their mothers ...i can't wait :-)

My mum died a few years ago and I never felt loved for a lot of reasons. So instead I will nominate my mother in law. After our wedding the first thing she said to me was, "Hello daughter." She has helped in many ways doing simple things like babysitting and helping me to learn to use a sewing machine. It is good to be mothered.
